Spitfire Project - The Parnall Aircraft Company

Spitfire Project Update 12.8.19

In the Parnall Aircraft Company this week we have had more items being fitted to the cockpit of the static aircraft. We have the undercarriage selector, friend or foe transponder, Morse code tapper and the gun sight spare bulb holder.

The Tailplanes have seen more work, with the nut plates for the elevator brackets being fabricated and installed. This then means the last ribs can be fitted before the lower skins follow suit.

Robin Edwards of RMS Boat Transport based nearby in Portscatho, came to our assistance this week with his telehandler, to move both Merlin engines from their old stands onto new ones made on site. While here he also moved one folder to the wing workshop and our new one into the main workshop. The new one was picked up this week, which will allow us to do more work in house due to its bigger size (2m) and construction.

On Monday and Tuesday both of the apprentices were at Castle Air completing tasks needed for their NVQ. This week saw them fit a new gas turbine engine to an Agusta 109 helicopter. All Images © Parnall Aircraft Company Ltd
