Spitfire Project Update – 19.8.19

This week the team have continued the progress on the static aircraft. The continuation of fitting skins to the fuselage has seen the team getting used to working in confined spaces. Thankfully, no one appears to have claustrophobia yet, though a few minor bumps and bruises may have appeared! All of the fuselage skins that we can manufacture on-site without the use of an English wheel have now been made and fitted to the aircraft.

More items have been fitted to the cockpit area, which is now starting to resemble how it should. The engine mount has had more elements to its complex repair carried out, by having the repair plates and inserts riveted to the original structure.

Progress on the wings have continued with more items being manufactured, including parts of centre rib 8 and 9, while the newly made nose ribs have also been fitted to the starboard wing.
